I never need an excuse to grab some tacos, but if I did, Cinco de Mayo would be the perfect one. With outdoor seating, modern yet earthy decor, and an authentic cuisine, Rosie’s is the perfect spot to celebrate Cinco. When NYC is #blessed with some warm weather, the spacious restaurant doors are all open to the street — did somebody say day drinking and guacamole???
Chef Mark Meyer nails the authentic essentials of Mexican food…
- Guacamole must be Spanish for perfection. This is the most aesthetically pleasing food I’ve ever consumed, even more so with my watermelon juice to match.
- Queso Fundido, emphasis on fun. This melted cheese with rajas (sliced peppers) made for the perfect boomerang and for the perfect starter to share. It is served with the tortillas that are freshly prepared on the comal in the center of the restaurant.
- Tacos are the main event, and Rosie’s has plenty to choose from. I highly recommend both the Al Pastor and the Pescado. The Al Pastor’s perfectly marinated pork was topped with the avocado-tomatillo salsa and pineapple! The pork and pineapple complimented each other perfectly, much like a Hawaiian pizza (IYKYK). The Pescado taco included cod, beer-battered and fried to perfection, cabbage-jalapeno slaw (which I could have done with less of), and chipotle-lime mayo (which I could have done with more of).
- Tlayuda Oaxaquena is a unique dish only offered for lunch. The hard corn tortilla is topped with a black bean puree, shredded greens, tomatillo salsa, queso oaxaca, pico de gallo, and your choice of protein — the chicken was great! Great dish if you’re looking to switch it up.
